Don’t F**king Repeat Yourself
Posted on July 4th, 2007 No commentsCarl has suggested some interesting improvements to the standard Rails migrations:
So, you’re a Rails developer? CHECK! You have this great idea for a new application, the one which will surely get Yahoo and Google involved in a bidding war? CHECK! But you don’t actually start developing it because you are fed up having to run script/generate model model_name, editing the migration for the table, writing the tests for all the rules which are implied by the database (Such as maximum lengths for columns and column uniqueness), and then editing the model to pass those tests? CHECK!
(digg here if you’re that way inclined)

Ubisoft pulls game for offensive language
Posted on July 4th, 2007 No commentsUbisoft has pulled MindQuiz for its use of an “offending word” to people with disabilities.
Calling one of the ability levels ‘Super Spastic‘ is somewhat unfortunate.

Great use for Captchas
Posted on July 4th, 2007 No commentsSite administrators use CAPTCHAs to prevent automated scripts from performing certain functions, such as creating an account, sending email to a distribution list, or participating in a discussion thread.
That’s fine, as far as it goes. But, frankly, I’d also like to see certain people on the Internet prevented from doing certain things. You know, like: logging onto the Internet.
And so, a modest proposal: Internet Access Captchas, built right into browsers, designed to greatly reduce the overabundance of youtube commenters, MySpacers, and bloggers.
Prove your eligibility to use the internet here. Great idea!
